Magnetic Tapes are basically manufactured from the tape made out of Strontium ferrite mixed with the matrix of rubber and plastic (elastomer), that is added to the steel support. The sensing head moves over the tape, with the distance up to 2,5 mm.Magnetic Tape System works on the value of magnetism, in contrary to the optical systems, it is completely resistant to contamination caused by dust and oil. The tape features changing magnetic capacity from north to south poles at a certain distance that is called the pole pitch.As the sensor is driven across the magnetic tape, it detects the shifting and creates an output signal similar to that of an increasing encoder or a linear scale.Resolution is estimated up to 1m. Distance (gap) of up to 2,5 mm (about 50% of the pole width) above the magnetic tape is allowed. Also, the accuracy classes of +5m is obtained.Such features make it suitable for application in inclement and polluted industrial environments such as wood industry.
